MASA Constitution
MASA or the Milwaukee-Area Student Affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English was formed to serve the following purposes:

To complement students' formal academic training at their respective colleges and universities;

To build community among students, faculty, staff, and alumni involved in English education at participating Milwaukee-area colleges and universities;

To establish and strengthen community among pre-service and in-service English educators in the Milwaukee area and throughout the state;

To familiarize members with state and national resources for English educators, starting with WCTE and NCTE.
Serving English educators at all career stages and interested community members, MASA offers the following membership categories:

Students. Student members serve as the primary members and leaders of MASA. Student membership is open to any undergraduates and graduate students enrolled in Milwaukee-area colleges and universities, including (but not limited to) Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University, Carroll University, Marquette University, Mount Mary University, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Waukesha, and UW-Whitewater.

Faculty and staff. Faculty and staff members serve MASA in formal and informal advisory roles. Faculty and staff membership is open to all faculty and staff employed at Milwaukee-area colleges and universities, including (but not limited to) Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University, Carroll University, Marquette University, Mount Mary University, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Waukesha, and UW-Whitewater.

Alumni. Alumni members support MASA by sharing professional insights gained over time through experience in English education. Alumni membership is open to individuals who have graduated from degree-granting programs at Milwaukee-area colleges and universities, including (but not limited to) Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University, Carroll University, Marquette University, Mount Mary University, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Waukesha, and UW-Whitewater.

Area educators. Current and retired teachers, school administrators, and informal as well as nontraditional educators provide MASA with an enriched knowledge base and extended support network. Area educator membership is open to all who are interested in the purposes of this organization, including (but not limited to) current and retired teachers, K-college; school administrators, and informal and nontraditional educators (i.e., literacy coaches, youth leaders) willing to volunteer their time and expertise.
